Natural Does a Body Good
Whole Foods is running a Back to School – Be Good to Your
Whole Body podcast series pertaining a wide variety of health issues we face
today; with great emphasis on, or course, going natural. From discussing oral
health care to multi vitamins, it’s an excellent series that proved tips to
parents about living a healthier lifestyle.
The series includes:
Natural Oral Care for
Kids: This podcasts provides information about natural oral care products
for children that not only taste good, but can help encourage your child(ren)
to brush and floss more regularly. Malia
Curran talks to Pam Scheeler about the benefits of choosing natural oral care.
Common conventional products contain many synthetic products while natural oral care items contain real flavours from plants. There are many options for oral health care in natural items that are similar to those common and conventional products – dental floss, toothpicks, breath fresheners, mouthwashes, tooth brushes, etc.
Going natural for children can be simplified by making sure that it tastes good: if it tastes good, the likeliness of them continuing to care for their oral health is much greater.
The American Academy of Paediatrics recommends a daily multi vitamin for children simply because many are rather picky eaters and are not consuming the daily requirements for nutrients and vitamins.
Children’s common multi-vitamins contain dyes and processed
sugars and it’s important when looking for a natural multi for children, to
once again take into consideration the taste. Parents should look for chewable or liquids
with no added sugars / sweeteners or additives. It’s also important to note that children’s
needs and requirements change with time. But overall it’s important to ensure
they are receiving vitamins A, C, D and B which are essential for brain, bone
and immune development and energy.
Even young adults should be taking a multi-vitamin since their diets are lacking due to constantly being on the run, eating far too many processed foods as well as being weight conscious. Pre-teens and teenagers should also consider that the required amounts of vitamin C, calcium, iron water, fibre and essential fatty acids will help with healthy skin – very important to young adults.
Along with a daily multi-vitamin it’s important that children eat breakfast. Breakfast plays a major role in providing nutrients for brain and immune function as well as energy – which we all can use a little more of in the morning!
The podcast series includes two more audio components which will be available in September:
EFAs & Back to School Brain Power: why essential fatty acids are crucial for mental function and a healthy brain. (Available September 2nd.)
Healthy Immune System for a Healthy School Year: Ways to stay healthy with school year – ways to keep your immune system in tip top shape with probiotics, herbs, supplements and simple healthy habits! (Avilable September 9th .)
To be honest, I very rarely use natural items: cleaners or foods – but this series has me very intrigued and even may willing to change my ways! This site is quickly becoming a favourite!
