New concepts in travel? The Manned Cloud
While this idea may be just for the rich folks, the concept is one of the most innovative I've read about in a long time.
Jean-Marie Massaud of France has created the Manned Cloud - "a flying hotel, which allows its passengers to discover inaccessible areas, devoid of any infrastructure (airports, roads, hotels, etc.)"
The Manned Cloud is a blimp-like structure which acts as a hotel for up to 40 guests and 15 staff. But not only is it a hotel, it replaces air / train / car travel by travelling to the destination a la Love Air Boat. Vacation spots can be visited with minimal impact.
For example, you could visit the Amazon without ever setting foot on the ground - mind you, don't fly too low or you run the risk of being speared by some uncontacted tribe. Always an issue when travelling via blimp.
The choice of exotic locals is virtually endless and the fact that the visits would be done without being exploitive or intrusive reduces the carbon-footprint substantially.
Imagine being able to travel around the world in three-days with minimal impact and without leaving a trace of our grubby polluting habits. The concept may be realized within the next year according to the designer.

Now if only they can make it affordable to all, that would make this concept truly amazing.
Don't forget about this month's BHAC June Challenge: Reducing the Auto Footprint. What are some of the ways in which you or your friends or family are reducing your automobile footprint? Write a blog post, and link to us here, so we know you're participating in this month's challenge.
